## What is Secret Network?

Secret Network is a layer 1 blockchain with privacy-preserving smart contracts, which means they’re able to have encrypted inputs, outputs, and state. This makes it possible to build applications that are decentralized and permissionless, like on Ethereum, without having to reveal all the data to the entire world. Developers and users have the ability to choose which data should be kept private, and which data can be made public. Secret Network is built with Cosmos SDK, and is interoperable with many other blockchain ecosystems through cross-chain protocols like IBC. This interoperability allows Secret to provide access to privacy-preserving transactions and computations to public blockchains, where these things would otherwise be impossible.
